What are employment prospects like at the moment?
There is a large
movement in the industry at the moment and expect this to last for a
few years to come.
The aviation industry is very cyclical and tends to follow the
pattern of the economy. Presently employment prospects are good, with
good progression throughout all levels of the industry. Employment
prospects tend to fluctuate, but the overall pattern is one of
growth, so it is best get qualified as soon as possible and start
gaining that valuable experience.
Describe the career paths available eg. Instructor rating, flying charter in the outback
On completion of your CPL you can continue
on to a Multi-Engine Instrument Rating and seek for work as a
charter pilot or you can gain an Instructor Rating and instruct at a
flying school. Both jobs will give you the required command time
and experience required by larger operators (airlines etc.) There
are different advantages to all of the career paths available. The
career path you chose should reflect your personality, your
strengths and your personal situation.
What type of aircraft do you fly?
We fly a variety of
different aircraft ranging from 2-seater Cessna 152 basic trainers
to 6-seater twin-engine Beechcraft Dutches used for advanced
training and charter.
The aircraft you fly are up to you! Once you gain your licence, you
can undertake training on a whole range of interesting and varied
aircraft designs.
What are the jobs in aviation?
There is a variety of jobs in
aviation including instructing, charter, scenic/joy flights, aerial
surveillance, military and police air wing, ambulance, fire spotting
and of course regional and airline flying, where you go is up to
you.
LEARNING TO FLY
Is learning to fly difficult?
No. It does however require
commitment. Flying is not difficult it is challenging and fun. Even
the airline pilot strives for that perfect landing!
How old can I be?
There is no minimum age limit to initiate
your training (as long as you can see over the dashboard). However,
you need to be at least:
- 16 years of age for solo
- 17
years of age for PPL
- 18 years of age for CPL
- 21 years of
age for ATPL
There is
no age limit on flying. You can start learning as soon as you are old
enough to reach the pedals.
How long does it take to get your licence? How long will it take to get my CPL/PPL flying on weekends only?
FULL-TIME - 1
month for GFPT - 2 months for PPL - 12 months for
CPL PART-TIME (MIMINUM) - 6 months for PPL - 18 months
for CPL
Your
training is not time limited. We understand that everyone has
different aims and objectives in aviation. Additionally, we all have
busy lives, so at Aerospace Aviation we will schedule your flying in
accordance with your needs.
What theory options do we have and how much are they?
There
are four options: - Self-study - Classes - One-on-one
instruction - Computer on-line theory packages Or a
combination of the above.
Theory is
not difficult, but it will take time and effort. We are able to
provide flexibility in theory training to suit different students
needs. Theory can be self studied at home, or if time permits, you
can enrol in our face-to-face theory courses.
Are the medical standards strict? Can I wear glasses?
You
have to be healthy. Vision can be correctable with glasses. Medical
standards vary depending on whether you want to fly commercially or
just for recreation. However, the standards are not overly strict,
and anyone with a good overall standard of health can hold an
aviation medical certificate. Glasses can be worn to improve vision
as long as you wear them while you are flying!
What does the licence give me? What do these licences allow me to do?
A
licence allows you to fly an aeroplane on your own. A private
licence allows you to fly anywhere in Australia by day and in good
weather conditions with passengers on the aircraft types you are
endorsed on. A commercial licence allows all of the above and
includes carrying passengers or cargo for hire/reward. A private
licence will allow to fly recreationally anywhere in Australia by
day. A commercial licence hives you the right to fly for reward –
i.e. make money while you fly
How is Bankstown Airport better than Camden or Hoxton Park?
Bankstown
is a much larger airport with a control tower and has three runways
compared to Hoxton’s one. Bankstown is widely used for flying
training, charter and bank runs thus exposing the student to all of
the operational day to day challenges of flying. Bankstown airport
will prepare you for the buzz of general aviation. It is a busy but
very well organised airport that will prepare you well for safe
flying in the Sydney area.
What do I do prior to starting the course (medical etc.)?
Aerospace
Aviation can provide you with a list of Designated Approved Medical
Examiners (DAME) and the required application forms for an Aviation
Reference Number (ARN) and Student Pilot Licence. An aviation medical
may be completed prior to commencing the course but is not required
prior to starting you lessons. Keen students may do some pre reading
of aviation theory before commencing.
How do I start?
Give us a call at Aerospace Aviation and make
a booking. We are here seven days a week and can start you at any
time. If you prefer just come out and have coffee and take a look
around.
What courses do I do at school?
While Civil Aviation Safety
Authority doesn’t require any particular subjects, certain
airlines require passes in a 2 unit Maths, Physics and English. Those
wishing to peruse a commercial career with the airlines should study
English, Maths and Physics at a 2-unit year twelve level. For private
or non-airline commercial flying no educational prerequisites exist.
How much do I earn?
Initially, like most other jobs, expect to
earn a basic wage, however, within a short time it will increase.
Airline pilots in Australia can earn up to $300000/yr. The amount you
earn will depend on the job. But generally you can expect to earn
what most people earn when they get their first job. Later on down
the track, the rewards can be very high indeed.
AEROSPACE AVIATION
What type of aircraft does Aerospace Aviation have
Cessna 152
used for ab-initio training, PA28 used for private pilot training,
C172RG and C182 used for advanced systems, night and commercial
training, BE-76 Duchess and P68 Partenavia for multi-engine,
commercial and instrument and charter. We have a range of aircraft
available for your training and subsequent hire, ranging from simple
single engine Cessna 152 type aircraft up to advanced multi-engine
all weather aircraft.
Why are we at Aerospace Aviation the best choice of school
Aerospace
Aviation has been established for over twenty years and has a
reputation within the industry, which is second to none. It has
outlasted many other schools in the industry, which have come and
gone. The majority of our pilots are now Airline Captains, Military
Pilots, Charter Pilots and Flight Instructors. During our time of
operation, we have never had a flying accident.
Our
graduates work for airlines all over the world and look back happily
on their time at Aerospace Aviation. We have the experience required
to help you achieve your goals in aviation in a timely and safe
manner.
Do you take university students?
Yes.
We also run university-accredited courses. Over the years we have
training students for several universities, most recently for the
University of Western Sydney. We are proud of our standard of
training.
How long has the company been established?
Aerospace Aviation has been
training students for over twenty years.
How much does it cost to take an aircraft away for the weekend or to take friends for a fly locally?
Depending
on the type of aircraft and how long the flight takes. You only pay
for the flying time. A trip to Canberra and back in a four-seater
will cost approximately $500 (that’s $125 each!). When you hire
an aircraft, you pay only for the hours you fly. So on a share basis,
loading up your aircraft with you friends and family and taking them
away for a relaxing weekend on the Hunter Valley becomes a very real
and affordable adventure.
